Daycare projects on budget

Two new city-owned child care centers are progressing on time and on budget.

A report to council says construction plans at the Vernon Recreation Center and the Lakers Clubhouse property are both on schedule six months after construction began.

The daycare complex next to the recreation center on 35th Avenue is being built by Sawchuk Developments.

The report indicates that the contractor has completed the roof sheathing and the water membrane underlayment.

The framing of the interior walls is being completed, as well as the installation of windows and doors.

It is expected that the installation will be in the lockout stage by the end of April and the start of the rough plumbing, electrical and HVAC installations will be underway.

Meanwhile, the Lakers facility is being built by ANR Construction.

Most of the electrical, HVAC and plumbing has been completed in preparation for wall closure.

Drywall work is underway and will continue until May.

Exterior finish, roofing and cladding are being installed, along with walkways, sidewalks and concrete slabs.

The centers will be operated by Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan.
