CITYCON OYJ Corporate Press Release June 23, 2021 at 9h00
HELSINKI, June 23, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Citycon continues to implement its mixed-use urban hub development strategy by adding hotels, offices and services to needs-based community centers. Citycon takes another step towards the redevelopment of the Trekanten center in Asker, Norway following approval by Asker city council to send the zoning proposal to a public hearing.
In close cooperation with the municipality of Asker, Citycon has now submitted a proposal to open the Trekanten center to its surroundings. With the cultural center of the municipality, the public services square and the library as the closest neighbors, Trekanten will be even more integrated into its surroundings.
“Trekanten is an excellent center, with enormous potential for further development. Trekanten’s redevelopment plans are very much in line with Citycon’s strategy of creating meeting places in the heart of the local communities where our centers are located. want to evolve from a shopping center in the city center to an integral part of the city center. The zoning proposal is the result of a fruitful dialogue with the municipality of Asker “, states Fredrik S. Myhre, Director of Development at Citycon.
The zoning plan must now be sent for public hearing, which will give local residents and other interested parties the opportunity to submit their comments. The zoning plan is expected to be tabled for further discussion by City Council this fall, with a view to final resolution in the coming years.
The redevelopment project emphasizes that Trekanten continues to be more than just a place to shop. It will help strengthen Asker as an urban hub and meeting place and provide a variety of services. In the new floors above the existing center there will be space for health and municipal services, offices, a hotel and a fitness center.
The applicant is Norway fifth pole of public transport, with the station district well integrated into the city center. It is a short walk from the Trekanten center, right in the heart of downtown Asker.
The location of Trekanten in Asker, just outside Oslo, gives it a catchment area characterized by growth and strong purchasing power. Asker has a stable demographic structure and its population is expected to increase in the coming years.
According to Fredrik S. Myhre, the company aims to develop the new Trekanten center with a resolutely green profile.
“The new buildings will be designed to meet the requirements of Breeam Excellent. In addition, Citycon has signed a letter of intent with FutureBuilt, with the aim of making Trekanten a beacon of sustainability. This agreement is an important part of our ambition to create forward-looking meeting places, with people and the environment at the center, ”Myhre explains.
FutureBuilt is a collaboration between six municipalities of Oslo region, including Asker. Its vision is to develop attractive and climate neutral urban areas.
