GUWAHATI: The Nagaon Medical College under construction will begin its MBBS academic session from next year, 2022. Assam Minister of Health Keshab Mahanta said. Speaking to reporters in Nagaon, the minister informed that the structural works of the medical faculty buildings were almost completed and the interior works remained.
“Our target was December of this year and according to our analysis and consultation, the academic session can start at Nagaon Medical College from the next session,” Mahanta said.
Regarding the progress of civil and other work underway at the site, the Minister of Health said that the majority of the work was completed.
“The structures have been laid for most of the buildings. Structural works for the administration building, university building, girls ‘hostel and boys’ hostel are almost completed and most of the interior work remains. The work is progressing at the desired speed and we expect to complete it by December of this year. Almost 68 percent of the work has been completed and payment has been made for 63 percent, ”Minister Keshab Mahanta said.
The hospital building will take some time, said the minister, “As the contractor has secured the work from the hospital at a later date, there will therefore be a small delay in its completion.”
The minister also said that additional work on the campus would be awarded in consultation with people with disabilities and, like most medical schools, a good drainage system would be built along with the college buildings.
