Since its launch in February, a few days away from private equity firm North Equity acquisition of Domino– Expert has amassed an impressive arsenal of interior design talent to join his mission of connecting clients with a variety of outstanding designers for online consultations. A number of former AD100s, including Brigette Romanek, Martin Brudnizki and Michael S. Smith, have signed up to offer their services through 25- or 55-minute design consulting sessions on the platform. The startup saw early success as consumers stuck at home were eager to renovate. Romm Perez will be a key hire to help The Expert stay on top of his game as Americans emerge from the pandemic.

The appointment comes months after The Expert closed a $ 3 million seed funding round, which involved the participation of Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow and AD100 creator Brigette Romanek in addition to a range of venture capital firms. In his new role, Romm Perez will work hand-in-hand with co-founders Leo Seigal (a tech entrepreneur) and Jake Arnold (celebrity designer) to develop The Expert’s broader business strategy.

As Jake Arnold says, partnering with Romm Perez was a way to bring on board another designer taste maker whose skills can help The Expert grow their business. “I have been a huge fan of Jessica’s eye and appreciation for design for many years, watching her develop the imprint of DominoArnold told AD Pro. “I am delighted to be working alongside him to translate the vision of our expanding brand. ”

With designers and clients more open to meeting virtually than they likely would have been before the pandemic, Romm Perez sees this as an opportune time to join a company helping to reshape the way design is done.

“As soon as I learned of the launch of The Expert, I was intrigued by what Leo and Jake were doing for the industry. With so many people looking for new ways to shop, design and decorate their homes, The Expert is ready to help lead this movement, ”she says. “I am thrilled to join this dynamic platform which has already been so widely celebrated by designers, brands and customers so soon after its launch. “

The expert may soon face more competition from in-person design services than at launch. But this major hire suggests they’re just getting started when it comes to building the next commerce-focused phase by adding brands and developing their design talent. Maybe the redesign of our kitchens via Zoom is here to stay after all.
