After announcing its temporary closure in January, El Jefe Taqueria will reopen between July 15 and August 1, owner Steve Parry said.

The restaurant, located at 1214 Commerce St., has been closed due to ongoing renovations to expand seating.

Once reopened, it will be able to accommodate double what it could have had inside and dozens of new seats outside on the courtyard.

The interior will remain the same, but where guests will notice a difference is in the back, where a new bar will be located on the Bluffwalk serving margaritas and beer with additional seating.

The yard will also be enlarged to allow a fireplace in the fall and winter as well as additional tables.

The existing patio, which was mainly used during the warmer months, will have new garage doors that will be able to close during the winter and open in the spring and summer and will have heating and air conditioning.

The menu will remain the same, Parry said.

Lynchburg resident Joy Shaughnessy said she was especially excited about the restaurant reopening so she could get her fix of nachos.

“I seriously miss El Jefe’s nachos and can’t wait to sit outside with my friends and family again while I fill my happy face,” she said.
