Carrol Deane Young, 83, died Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas. She was born on April 19, 1939 in Hutchinson, Kansas to David and Frances Wilcox Stephenson. In 1943, when she was 4 years old, her family moved to Greeley County where she would live the rest of her life. On November 2, 1958, she married Ralph W. Young in Goodland, Kansas. He survives. She was primarily a homemaker, but used her interior design and landscaping skills in her community. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Tribune, Kansas. Carrol was faithful in attending a weekly community Bible study and found great joy in having a coke and hanging out the high street and back streets with his sisters-in-law; Frances and Hazel in their later years. His other joy was spending time with loved ones.
Carrol lived a busy life, having owned and operated the Boot N’ Buckle clothing store for several years in the 1980s, as well as owned and operated the family farm with her husband in Northwest Greeley County from 1962 to 2017. In May 1977, Carrol and Ralph moved from the farm to their home in Tribune. She also served as secretary in the Greeley County Extension Office. Later in life, she attended Sheffield School of Design and used those skills in her beloved hometown.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Young of Tribune, Kansas, four daughters, Sherry and (Alan) Peter of Tribune, Kansas, Connie and (Ken) Shafer of Tribune, Kansas, Lisa Young of Hays, Kansas, Billie and (Dale) Kuhlman of Olmitz, Kansas, and one brother, Don & (Stephanie) Stephenson of Oakley, Kansas, nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Davie Stephenson, a sister, Patsy Hapes, and a son, Larry Rae Young.
Funeral services will be held at Greeley County Cemetery on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Mountain Time with Ron Riley and Jerry Young presiding.
Visitation will be held at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Tribune, Kansas on Monday, June 13, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
